What We Do
The Districts are facilitators, not just deliverers, of programs and services. Our mandate is to facilitate community development through sport, culture and recreation for and with the communities within our jurisdictions. The long-term outcome is for communities to have the capacity to provide a wide variety of sport, culture and recreation opportunities that will enhance the quality of life of the citizens within in those communities.
Through our District networks, we use a community development approach to work with communities and organizations to meet their sport, culture and recreation needs.
We provide leadership for sport, culture and recreation on behalf of our communities and organizations in advocacy, partnerships, planning, policy and training.
We work with our members towards building healthy, active communities through sport, culture and recreation.
District staff help communities assess their needs; providing them with services, information and access to a wide range of the sport, culture and recreation programs that can enhance quality of life and community vitality.
Mission
South West District for Culture, Recreation and Sport is a volunteer organization dedicated to facilitating the delivery of culture, recreation and sport with the communities of the South West District.
Vision
Our vision is to have residents of South West Saskatchewan recognize and value the benefits of culture, recreation and sport, through understanding, support, involvement and participation.
Where We Are
The South West District for Culture, Recreation and Sport includes the area south of the South Saskatchewan River, the borders of Alberta, Montana and North Dakota and east to the area south of the City of Regina. Community recreation boards, schools, non-profit organizations and individuals are the District’s primary users.
History
There are seven Districts for sport, culture and recreation and two Districts for sport in Saskatchewan. The Districts were formed through an amalgamation of seven Zone Sport Councils and 23 Regional Recreation Associations. The amalgamation was based on a review of the culture, recreation and sport delivery system in the province by SaskCulture, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and Sask Sport. The process took approximately four to five years to complete.
Roles and Responsibilities

We provide program support and implementation, ensuring the coordination and implementation of accessible sport, culture and recreation programs for all age groups, including initiatives that have provincial or District significance.
We develop initiatives that facilitate Aboriginal participation in sport, culture and recreation programs and foster capacity building, partnerships and improved relationships through their inclusion in decision making mechanisms within the District;
Using partnerships and collaborations, we foster stronger relationships with local/regional health, tourism, education authorities and other human services coordinating mechanisms.
We enhance interaction and communication among sport, culture and recreation organizations by promoting the value and benefits of these activities to communities.
